This Privacy Policy explains how Distinctive Productions ("Distinctive Productions," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit distinctiveproductions.com or use any Distinctive Productions mobile or reading application that links to this policy (together, the "Services"). It also explains the privacy choices available to you, including under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA"), the California Invasion of Privacy Act ("CIPA"), and other applicable U.S. state privacy laws.
This document is provided as a general-purpose template for informational convenience and does not constitute legal advice. Laws in this area change frequently and vary by jurisdiction — please have this policy reviewed by a qualified attorney before relying on it as your official policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Manuscript submissions — your name, email address, book title, genre, manuscript status, synopsis, and, optionally, an uploaded manuscript or sample chapter file.
- Contact form messages — your name, email address, and message content.
- Account information — if you are issued an author or editorial dashboard login, your credentials and related account activity.
- Technical information — collected automatically by our servers, such as IP address, browser type, device information, and access timestamps, for security and functionality purposes.
We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information simply to browse the public site.
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We currently use only one strictly necessary cookie required to operate the site. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently run analytics tracking on this site. If that changes, we will update this section and, where required by law, request your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
| connect.sid | Strictly necessary | Maintains a signed-in session for authorized author/editorial accounts. Not set for anonymous visitors. | Session (expires when browser closes or session times out) |
Because this is a strictly necessary cookie used only for authorized account sign-in, it does not require opt-in consent under GDPR or CCPA.
How We Use Information
- To evaluate manuscript submissions and communicate with prospective authors.
- To respond to messages sent through our contact form.
- To operate, secure, and maintain the Services, including author/editorial accounts.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.
We do not use your information for automated advertising profiling, and we do not currently send marketing email.
How We Share Information
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we never have. We disclose information only:
- With service providers who help us operate the Services (for example, email delivery), under obligations to protect your information.
- If required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Distinctive Productions, our users, or the public.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you where required by law.
Data Retention
We retain manuscript submissions and related correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to evaluate them and for a limited period afterward for recordkeeping, unless you request earlier deletion. Contact form messages are retained only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry. You may request deletion at any time — see "Contact Us" below.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information in our care. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
EU / UK Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. Our legal bases for processing include your consent, our legitimate interests in operating the Services, and taking steps to enter into a contract with you (for example, evaluating a manuscript submission). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA) & CIPA Notice
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction of it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of today. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
Regarding the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA): standard, disclosed website functionality — such as the form fields, session cookie, and server logs described in this policy — is used solely to operate and secure the Services, not to intercept, eavesdrop on, or record private communications without consent. If you have a specific concern about how a particular feature works, please contact us using the details below and we will address it directly.
Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and others as they take effect) may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and port personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. You can exercise these rights using the contact details below.
Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable law requires), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Some published titles contain mature themes intended for adult readers. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International Data Transfers
Our Services are operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to protect information transferred internationally.
Manuscript & Submission Content
Manuscripts, synopses, and sample chapters you submit are used solely to evaluate your work for publication and are not shared outside our editorial team except as described in this policy. You retain all intellectual property rights in your submitted work; submitting a manuscript does not transfer any ownership or license beyond what is necessary for us to review it, unless a separate publishing agreement is signed.
Third-Party Services
This site loads web fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com), which may process your IP address to serve font files. We may link out to third-party sites, such as social media pages; we are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we don't operate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
To exercise any privacy right described above, or with any question about this policy, contact us at hello@distinctiveproductions.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
